With adventure and exploration at a fingertip’s reach, there is plenty to discover here in Brunswick County, Virginia. Brunswick is the proud “Home of the Original Brunswick Stew” but, stew isn’t all we do!

We invite you to taste the flavor of exploration and rich history at our annual Taste of Brunswick Festival on the second Saturday, in October. Take the time to indulge in a unique fine dining experience at The Kennon House in Gasburg, VA, one of Virginia’s historic treasures. Make sure you absorb the stunning views at the only waterfront bar and grill on Lake Gaston, VA the Shady Shack Grill and Flip Flop Bar in Bracey, VA.

Brunswick has a variety of options to please every taste bud from your traditional Italian favorites to delicious downhome southern cooking. The Club House Grill in Lawrenceville, VA has our delicious Brunswick Stew year-round, it's a stop along the Brunswick Stew Tour, stop in and grab a delicious bowl of our famous Brunswick Stew any day of the week. 

Feel free to test your historical knowledge at a number of our historic sites and trails; Explore our sites along The Civil War Trails, The Civil Rights in Education Heritage Trail, and travel along The Tobacco Heritage Trail which spans 14 miles across our county from Lawrenceville to Brodnax along the previous Norfolk and Southern Train Rail.

Another historic treasure is Fort Christanna, which was the western most outpost of the British Empire and a trading hub established in 1714 until it was disbanded in 1718. It’s also a stop located on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.

Take a stroll down memory lane and visit the Valentine’s Post Office home of the world-famous Valentine’s Stamp. Thousands of valentines are sent each year to receive this special heart shaped stamp which we think adds that “extra” touch of love.  Valentine’s Day is nationally known and celebrated on February 14th however, on this day in the Commonwealth of Virginia it’s also as Valentine’s Virginia Day.


Now, that you have gotten a taste for Brunswick and brushed up on your history it’s time for a little adventure in the great outdoors! Lake Gaston is a prime location for adventure! Boating, Fishing, Tubing, Skiing, the list goes on. Across the way in Rawlings, VA, you will discover Lake Phoenix, which has been known to be the clearest water on the East Coast utilized as a scuba diving park.

Be sure you stop by Brunswick Lake or County Park at Great Creek Reservoir for additional fishing and kayaking opportunities. Brunswick County Country Club and Lake Gaston Golf Club are great places to tee off and work on your golf game.

Don’t forget The Club in Gasburg, VA has bowling and other adventures at their resort location. Take in the sights of our beautiful Lake Gaston and Brunswick County from the sky in a one of a kind Seaplane experience with Steve Harrison at Sand Dollar Sea Planes. Take in your own sights from the water by renting a pontoon or jet ski at Popular Pointe Marine in Bracey, Virginia.

While your exploring Brunswick, be sure you stop by our Brunswick Byways Visitor Center to say, “hi.” The staff and volunteers would like to tell you all about the wonderful things to discover and explore in the county and throughout the state. The Brunswick Byways Visitor Center offers a variety
of brochures, maps and many other publications as well as local upcoming event flyers.

The Brunswick Byways Visitor Center is a Certified Tourist Information Center with Virginia Tourism Cooperation which received its esteemed certification in February 2019.

Don’t forget to capture a picture with Brunswick’s first ever LOVEwork in partnership with Virginia Tourism Corporation “Virginia is for Lovers” campaign located on the lawn of the visitor center and remember to use the tag, #LOVEBrunswick when posting on your social media platforms for your friends and loved ones to see.

​The Town of Brodnax is located on the border of Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties. US Highway 58 passes through the town, leading west 6 miles to Interstate 85 and east 30 miles to Interstate 95. Anyone traveling Highway 58 from the Virginia shore to the Blue Ridge Mountains passes directly through Brodnax. 
Lawrenceville, VA 

The Town of Lawrenceville, founded in 1814, is centrally located between Richmond, VA and Raleigh, NC. The town, which serves as the County Seat, was named after a famous racehorse, Lawrence. Rolling pastures, southern hospitality, local shopping, historic sites, and recreational trails and waterways

Alberta, VA

​The Town of Alberta is a small town located on Historic Route 1 directly off Interstate 85. Alberta was founded in 1928 at the intersection of two major railroads. The town continues to preserve the quality of life experienced more than 90 years ago when the trains stopped here.
