Don’t miss the breathtaking views at the Shady Shack Grill and Flip Flop Bar, the only waterfront bar and grill on Lake Gaston in Bracey, VA.

Explore Our Rich History
Challenge your historical knowledge at various sites and trails throughout the area. Discover our landmarks along The Civil War Trails, The Civil Rights in Education Heritage Trail, and traverse The Tobacco Heritage Trail, which stretches 14 miles across the county from Lawrenceville to Brodnax, following the old Norfolk and Southern Train Rail.

A standout historic site is Fort Christanna, the westernmost outpost of the British Empire, established in 1714 and active until 1718. This site is also included on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.

Take a nostalgic stroll to the Valentine’s Post Office, home to the renowned Valentine’s Stamp. Each year, thousands of valentines are sent to receive this unique heart-shaped stamp, adding a special touch of love. While Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th nationwide, in Virginia, it’s also recognized as Valentine’s Virginia Day.

Adventure Awaits in the Great Outdoors
Now that you’ve sampled the flavors of Brunswick and brushed up on your history, it’s time for outdoor adventures! Lake Gaston is the perfect destination for boating, fishing, tubing, skiing, and so much more. Nearby in Rawlings, VA, you’ll find Lake Phoenix, renowned for having the clearest waters on the East Coast, perfect for scuba diving.

Be sure to visit Brunswick Lake or Great Creek Reservoir County Park for more fishing and kayaking opportunities. The Brunswick County Country Club and Lake Gaston Golf Club are excellent spots to hit the links and improve your golf game. Don’t miss out on The Club in Gasburg, VA, where you can enjoy bowling and various other activities at their resort location. Experience breathtaking views of Lake Gaston and Brunswick County from above with a unique seaplane adventure through Steve Harrison at Sand Dollar Sea Planes. Alternatively, explore the waters by renting a pontoon or jet ski from Poplar Pointe Marine in Bracey, Virginia.

Our friendly staff and volunteers are eager to share all the wonderful things to discover in the county and beyond. The center offers a wide array of brochures, maps, and local event flyers. The Brunswick Byways Visitor Center is a Certified Tourist Information Center recognized by the Virginia Tourism Corporation, having received this esteemed certification in February 2019.

​The Town of Brodnax is located on the border of Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties. US Highway 58 passes through the town, leading west 6 miles to Interstate 85 and east 30 miles to Interstate 95. Anyone traveling Highway 58 from the Virginia shore to the Blue Ridge Mountains passes directly through Brodnax. 
Lawrenceville, VA 

The Town of Lawrenceville, founded in 1814, is centrally located between Richmond, VA and Raleigh, NC. The town, which serves as the County Seat, was named after a famous racehorse, Lawrence. Rolling pastures, southern hospitality, local shopping, historic sites, and recreational trails and waterways

Alberta, VA

​The Town of Alberta is a small town located on Historic Route 1 directly off Interstate 85. Alberta was founded in 1928 at the intersection of two major railroads. The town continues to preserve the quality of life experienced more than 90 years ago when the trains stopped here.
